Career Opportunities for Majors in Management

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Management & Global Studies prepares you for a broad range of careers within many different industries. The work of a business manager involves planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of a company. A manager also oversees the work of others by building cooperation and performance among team members. Individuals can train or specialize in a number of functional areas including accounting, marketing, finance, or human resources. Their work may involve skills such as analyzing problems, decision making, delegating assignments, training and supervising staff, budgeting, and coordinating activities.

Managers are employed in various sectors (government, education, or private industry.) Within any large organization, managers with direct authority for a functional area (sales, finance, accounting) have line management positions, while people employed in activities that support these functions (human resources) hold staff management positions.

Management trainee positions are typically available in the retail, hotel/restaurant, banking, and insurance industries. A training program may last six to twelve months, allowing trainees exposure to the various functional areas within a company. Many people enter management positions with a bachelor's degree. However, a master's degree in business administration (MBA) is essential in some areas for advancement.

Many careers do not require a specific major but rather a wide range of demonstrated skills and accomplishments. Regardless of your career choices, increase your marketability through internships, work experience, and college activities.
